As I’m transitioning off of my current job, I started thinking about how I could be useful in the future. I know that the gist of one of Peter Thiel’s aphorisms is to take your ten year goals, and interrogate why you can’t complete them in six months.
I’m interested in being in the executive suite, and being a player in one of the big technology companies to maintain American dominance. Yet, there are millions of people jockeying for a similar role. I’m definitely not the smartest, and I sometimes rub people the wrong way.
As I’m interviewing for jobs similar to the project manager job I currently have, I ought to think about what I can specifically leverage to go forward.
- I’m really good at strategic thinking
- I’m a lot less risk averse than most people wanting to be executives
- I’m very assertive and persuasive, and I like to write
- I’m curious and interested to reason from first principles
To that end, I’ve started to read a lot of Paul Graham’s old essays, Ray Dalio’s principles, Brian Tracey’s compendium, and more, while trying to think through what I can specifically build for other people. If you have any ideas of what would be interesting to make, let me know in the comments.
