We all have the days when nothing seems to be going right. In my case, it was getting rejected from working at a private equity firm and terrible weather. It’s been just about 2 months since I stopped working at Epic, and it often feels like I’m unable to do anything. If I can’t succeed at this, why would I be able to succeed at anything else? This constant barrage of negative thoughts breaks the will I have to keep moving forward, at least temporarily.
When it feels like there’s nothing you’re accomplishing, and you’re spinning your wheels, it’s often a good time to take a step back, and think of what your goals should be for the rest of the day, and work from there. I made a list of everything I wanted to do, and I’ll continue building a life I find fulfilling. Sometimes that means changing directions for a bit.
In my case, I cleaned my room, continued building one of my entrepreneurial ventures, sent my resume out to a few people who want to help me, completed my tax returns, and filed for unemployment today. Accepting that I’m not getting everything I wanted done, and that today, like many other days will be hard, will keep me moving forward.
Importantly, when things feel overwhelming, if you can focus on a few things in your control, and work up from there, you will be able to continue pushing forward, one lazy day, one lazy daze at a time.
