Just as I have spent several years off of Facebook, and most of my life off of Snapchat, I decided I would go back to the dark side of the moon and avoid my remaining addictive social media.
To that end, I temporarily disabled shorts in YT, deleted my Twitter, and left my phone at home while we celebrated my grandmother’s 80th birthday. I felt a major sense of relief when I spent time apart from my anxiety device. I believe that generally, I need to find better ways of coping with having a device that’s as engaging as it is, especially because I’m more social and generally comfortable without it.
During periods when I avoid my phone, I’m more productive, happy, and friendly. If there’s a way I can avoid using it on a more regular basis, I will likely be happier.
I tried to use greyscale, and that didn’t seem to do much, and the temptation to use social media, the endless scroll was forever present.
The next thing I need to do is find whether there are things that can reduce my reliance for other reasons. Maybe un-integrate ipods, GPS, cameras, and more, so that way I limit myself to minimal time-wasting nervous activities.
