I had signed up for a 5K several days ago because after moving, I haven’t really had many opportunities to meet people and make new friends. I thought that finding a set of events to attend would make it easier to find a broader community of people I’d be interested in networking with/getting to know.
So, I signed up for a 5k, and got there at 7:50 in a hoodie and shorts. It was at a nature center, and it was cold until we started running. When I started running, I realized how little time I had previously spent developing my leg muscles. After about a mile and a half, I was gassed. I ended up cycling between walking and jogging for the second half, but I felt great that I was up early and engaged in something quickly.
It was a really fun experience, and I would recommend it to anyone interested in getting more active. Having the cold air buffet you as you go up and down a trail is a satisfying and wonderful experience. 5 K down, up next: half marathon!
