A Shove In The Right Direction

People may forget what you’ve done, or what you’ve said to them. They tend not to forget how you make them feel. Knowing this, it’s important to make strong and positive impressions on other people. Doing so is not only instrumentally beneficial to your life, but it also makes you into a better person. Don’t just give a nudge in the correct direction, make it a shove.

Two things that may often be conflated, but shouldn’t be is what someone wants versus what someone needs. When you coach someone to get better at something, the odds are, they aren’t quite sure what to do next. Otherwise, why would they hire a coach? Despite this, they often search for keywords or other content that conveys what they see as authority. And, in a sense this is logical. A lot of people like to proclaim their expertise in areas they know very little about. Having a baseline of understanding almost acts a signal to help people choose more effective coaches.

This is why it’s a winning content to release good free content. This sets up your authority, and makes it so that people who want to get your knowledge can seek you out directly. This is why many people write blogs in the first place (but never me…. 😉 ). Producing helpful content also creates a relationship where people can trust that you have a reputation to uphold. Your reputation is your most important thing, and when you create positive feedback loops, it can become your greatest asset.

This gets into the idea of a shove in the right direction. At this point, you’ve got someone’s attention, and you can change their approach. When you do this, you send a message that you aren’t bound by their expectations of you. Instead, you can set the agenda for what can be focused on, and you send a message about your integrity.

Shoving people to be the best version of themselves builds the type of gratitude that maintains businesses, relationships, and more. Be the sort of standup guy you wish you had when you were starting out, and you can lift up the people around you.

A final element to consider is the type of person you become. When you consistently go beyond expectations, you build that as a habit. This is WONDERFUL because people can’t get enough of you, when they know the great job that you’ll do. Having fun and making money implies being the type of person who’s more than worth it. You should leave those you work with ranting and raving about how excellent it was to work with you.
