Tactfully Disagreeing

There’s a lot of public situations where people begin to say things and it’s neither the time nor the place to let them know precisely what you think of their gobbledygook.

I know that my beliefs can be somewhat idiosyncratic, but what I tend to find works is appealing to “let’s not get political” or “let’s not talk about religion” or sports or politely changing the subject.

Then, I try to think of a non-objectionable counter example and pretend like it just came to me and I’m curious and eager to know how they respond. This takes the mentally non agile and removes their ability to continue.
