This week, I tried to throw myself deeper into the realm of personal development than before. Here are the main things
- Taught myself to code in SQL, Python, and R quite effectively.
- Completed 6/11 of a masters degree in the months of November and December.
- Ran 3 timed 5ks. Identified a half marathon in May to run.
- Read Robert Carro’s The Power Broker
- Moved back into the Northeast and adjusted to new friendships and relationships.
- Wrote about 1/3-1/2 of a book on helping men improve their relationships.
- Blogged nearly daily for this entire year.
- Explored different diets, particularly keto diet, getting in the best shape of my life.
- Navigated a couple challenging lifestyle changes.
- Began to engage with a source of trauma
- Started a TikTok to build out a marketing profile.
- Started getting into entrepreneurship.
- Started expert consulting on EHR landscapes.
- Reconnected with old friends.
Looking at the plurality of my accomplishments for this year, I feel satisfied. Very few of these were immediately accomplished, but instead were incremental changes as I worked towards broader goals. Deciding to write my book is an outshoot of the other entrepreneurship that I’m doing. Getting in the best shape is an outgrowth of my desire to be able to run a marathon. Dressing nicer, having freedom come from the fact that I spend less money.
This year was largely a focus on my professional life. Most of my accomplishments from this year have to do with figuring out and positioning myself to do well going forward.
Looking forward, the themes that I want to focus on are:
- Building and maintaining a strong group of friends, potentially in a new place. I’ve been satisfied with the friends I have in the Northeast, but part of me wants to continue exploring, especially because I have no major obligations yet.
- Completing a high quality book, and leveraging my skills into course mastery, coaching, and speaking engagements. This will move myself in a more entrepreneurial direction as I progress further.
- Maintaining the gains from elsewhere in my life. I hope to keep the added sugar in my diet to a minimum, to avoid alcohol use, continue drinking a gallon of water a day, working out, running, saving money aggressively, and practicing mindfulness.
- I resolve that more of my running and exercise is going to be trying new things and taking advantage of the skills that I’ve already built. I want to spend more time networking and exploring this year, as opposed to putting as much time into grinding for excellence.
- I want to be more generous this year, and find something to devote my time to that involves selflessness.
- I want to do more home improvement projects this year, so that when I move out, it’s easier to leave my childhood home much better than I found it.
- I want to reduce my possessions by 10%.
- I want to find a recreational sports team that I could be a part of.
Overall, I’m mostly happy with my life, and I hope that I continue to push myself towards growing in the directions I want to go.
