My girlfriend and her cat are currently living with me, because we’re overlapping the lease before I move out of the Midwest, so she can have cheaper rent, and I can fill a vacancy. Unfortunately, this has come with some growing pains as this cat is from hell.
This cat has habits ranging from destroying any accessible toilet paper, opening the freezer, and consuming vintage leather bags. When this creature pouncing on my toes at 3 in the morning, I snapped emotionally. My empathy towards creatures of the world vanished. My heart hardened, and I decided that it was time to act. I would change my relationship with this cat by any means necessary.
This cat liked to sleep during the day, hiding in my closet under a warm pile of laundry, or on a shelf behind clothes, or maybe even under the stairs. On 3 hours of sleep, in an act of desperation, I rearranged my closet so there were no areas for this cat to rest. I put up boxes on the shelf so that Peach, the cat (ironic, right), would be unable to access his previous rest location during the day. I also filled the area under the stairs so he could not enjoy the location. Next, I rearranged my floor space so that light would hit every area of the closet. Finally, I turned on a light that I shined into the closet to prevent this cat from sleeping. If I can’t sleep, neither can he.
I also edited his feeding schedule so that he wouldn’t get a midnight snack, and I’m planning on waking him up every 15-45 minutes throughout the day so that his sleep schedule stops preventing mine. More to follow
