Finding Purpose in Work

If you feel in your heart that what you’re doing is useless, every moment you spend doing the tasks will feel like pulling teeth. The cavity keeps getting worse as goo accumulates, emotional baggage spews everywhere.

You should stop and ask yourself if you enjoy and find meaning in what you’re doing. You may not need to save the world, but if you don’t believe in what you’re doing, you won’t be able to succeed for an extended period of time.

You may find purpose over time, as you begin to learn the system. A keystroke at a time, you save people’s time, money, and dignity, freeing them up to more useful tasks. Maybe it’s the feeling of recognition of making those around you proud. Maybe it’s teaching the youth that brings you purpose and you want to see kids mature into thoughtful people.

Whatever your purpose, cling to it, make sure it serves you as you serve it.
